WGSDCII™ Championship Point System
The word "dog" wherever used in these rules shall include both sexes, unless specifications are necessary. All points are retroactive, so that all dogs that had been winning prior to June 24, 1979, did not lose their points. Also, since most Chapters did not offer Winners Dog, Winners Bitch or Best Of Winners before June 24, 1979, the retroactive points went to all the winners of Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex.
- WGSDCII Championship points will be awarded to the Winners Dog and Winners Bitch at all reserved Chapter and National Convention Shows. Show results must be forwarded to the National Conformation Director and must be printed in the DIN. The Conformation Director can confirm points (or a WGSDCII Championship) awarded to a dog prior to show results being printed in the DIN if he/she has received all show results showing the points earned by that dog. The Conformation Director CANNOT confirm points awarded at a show for which he/she has not received show results in writing. Any show results or championships that have not been confirmed by printing in the DIN but are published elsewhere (e.g., in a Chapter's newsletter) MUST contain the notation that the results being reported are "unconfirmed" or are "pending confirmation."
- A dog whose championship is unconfirmed, either by printing in the DIN or in writing by the Conformation Director, may only be shown in the Best of Breed class for a period of ninety (90) days from the show at which, according to the owner's records, the dog completed its championship requirements.
- Points will be recorded according to the number of eligible dogs of each sex competing in the regular classes, according to the Schedule of Points below.
- Below are the required number of dogs, then bitches, needed to win the specified number of points. Major points are 3, 4 and 5 points.
Schedule of Points |
1 Point | 2 Points | 3 Points | 4 Points | 5 Points |
2 - 2 | 3 - 3 | 5 - 5 | 8 - 8 | 11 - 11 |
- If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Breed, the Specials (champions) of both sexes entered for Best of Breed competition that have been defeated in such competition shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes in calculating championship points.
- If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, the Specials (champions) of its own sex entered for Best of Breed competition that have been defeated in competition for Best of Opposite Sex shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes for its sex in calculating championship points.
- The dog awarded Best of Winners shall be credited with the number of points calculated for Winners Dog or Winners Bitch, whichever is greater.
- In counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disqualified, dismissed, excused or ordered from the ring by the judge or from which all awards are withheld will not be included.
- No more than two (2) points (providing there are enough dogs in competition for the award of two points) can be awarded to any dog that has won Winners Dog, Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, Best of Breed or Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed when a member of the White German Shepherd Dog Club International or any of its Chapters is the Conformation Judge.
- No points are awarded to Reserve Winners Dog or Reserve Winners Bitch unless the Winners Dog or Winners Bitch shall be stripped of its points or not awarded its points as a result of a formally filed complaint for specific reasons.
WGSDCII™ Grand Championship Point System
In order to compete for the WGSDCII Grand Champion title, a dog must be a WGSDCII Champion of record or have been transferred to best of breed competition based upon the owners’ records of their having completed the requirements for a CH title.
The WGSDCII requires a dog to obtain a total of 25 points with three major wins (a major win is worth three points or higher) to become a Grand Champion. The majors must be won under three different judges and at least one other judge must award some of the remaining points, so you need to win under at least four different judges. At least one WGSDCII Champion of Record must be defeated at three of these shows and at least one of the dog's wins must be at a WGSDCII show.
A dog may earn Grand Champion points by winning any of the following:
- Best of Breed
- Best Opposite Sex
- Select Dog
- Select Bitch
Grand Champion points are awarded based on the WGSDCII point schedule.
- When a dog wins Best of Breed, take the total number of dogs competing in the regular classes and award points according the schedule.
- When a dog wins Best of Opposite Sex, take the total number of dogs of their sex competing in the regular classes and award points according to the schedule.
- When a dog or bitch wins a select, take the total number of dogs of their sex defeated and award points according to the schedule.
When Best of Breed or Best Opposite Sex wins are transferred in from another club, if the dog is already a WGSDCII Champion, they may be awarded Grand Champion points based on the rules above. However at least one major (three points or higher) must come from a WGSDCII Show.
Awarding WGSDCII Points from Wins in the United Kennel Club
WGSDCII Championship or Grand Championhsip points will be awarded for wins in United Kennel Club shows according to the WGSDCII Point Schedule. In order to be eligible for these points, the dog must be competing in UKC as a German Shepherd Dog and at least one owner of the dog must be a member of the WGSDCII.
Points are awarded as follows:
SCENARIO 1 - The dog is not a UKC Champion or Grand Champion and is not a WGSDCII Champion
- If the dog is awarded Best Male: count number of class dogs (dogs who are not UKC Champions or Grand Champions) actually competing and award points according to the WGSDCII Championship point schedule.
- If the dog is awarded Best Female: count number of class bitches (bitches who are not UKC Champions or Grand Champions) actually competing and award points according to the WGSDCII Championship point schedule.
- If the dog is awarded Best of Winners: award the higher of the points awarded to the Best Male and Best Female
- If the Best Male or Best Female also wins Best of Breed, count the number of class dogs (dogs who are not UKC Champions or Grand Champions) of the same sex as the Best of Breed and all Champion and Grand Champion dogs (both sexes) and award points according to the WGSDCII Championship point schedule. If this number of points is less than the points awarded to the Best of Winners, the Best of Winners points are awarded to the Best of Breed dog.
SCENARIO 2 - The dog is a UKC Champion or Grand Champion but not yet a WGSDCII Champion
If the dog is awarded Best of Breed: count the number of class dogs (dogs who are not UKC Champions or Grand Champions) of the same sex as the Best of Breed and all Champion and Grand Champion dogs (both sexes) and award points according to the WGSDCII Championship point schedule. If this number of points is less than the points awarded to the Best of Winners, the Best of Winners points are awarded to the Best of Breed dog.
Points awarded through Best of Breed count as majors if three or more points are earned.
In either scenario 1 or 2, if the dog advances to Group or Best in Show
- If the dog places in group, award one point for each breed beaten in group up to a maximum of five.
- If the dog takes Best in Show or Reserve Best in Show award one point for each breed beaten up to a maximum of five.
Points earned through group and Best in Show Competition do not count as majors even if three or more points are earned. A dog cannot earn more than 5 points in a single show. As such, group points and breed points added together cannot exceed five.
SCENARIO 3 - The dog is a WGSDCII Champion
- Grand Championship points will be awarded according to the WGSDCII Grand Championship point schedule if the dog wins Best of Breed.
- Grand Championship points will not be awarded for any other placing or for group wins.
In addition to the above scenarios, any Best of Breed win in the United Kennel Club will be eligible for WGSDCII Tops points.
Reporting Wins from United Kennel Club Shows
In order to receive credit for wins from United Kennel Club shows they must be reported to the WGSDCII Conformation director within 60 days of the date of the show. This should be done using the UKC Show Report form and can be mailed or emailed. When possible, proof of wins should be included but it not required. All wins reported from UKC Shows will be printed in the DIN and may be challenged by any WGSDCII member in good standing. If a win is challenged, the points awarded will be pending until the owner of the dog provides proof of the wins that is satisfactory to the conformation director. The ruling of the conformation director is final.
Until August 1, 2012 wins may be submitted from any UKC show from 2010 or later. After August 1, 2012, wins must be reported within 60 days or they will not be counted. Wins submitted for 2010 and 2011 are not eligible for Tops points since those years have been finalized but are eligible for Championship points.
